Ingredients
Brussels Sprouts
- 1 pound fresh Brussels sprouts
Seasoning
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 3 tablespoons parmesan cheese
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to prepare for roasting the Brussels sprouts.
- Prepare Brussels Sprouts: Trim the bottom off each Brussels sprout and remove the outer layer of leaves, which often contains dirt and brown spots.
- Boil Brussels Sprouts: Add the trimmed Brussels sprouts to a pot of boiling water and cook for 8 to 10 minutes until they are tender but not falling apart.
- Drain and Dry: Drain the cooked Brussels sprouts well and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, ensuring they crisp well in the oven.
- Smash Sprouts: Arrange the dried Brussels sprouts in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between each. Gently smash each sprout using a potato masher or fork.
- Season: Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil evenly over the smashed Brussels sprouts. Sprinkle the parmesan cheese, salt, and garlic powder evenly on top.
- Roast: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until the Brussels sprouts are crispy and golden to your liking.
Notes
- Peeling away the first layer of leaves helps remove dirt and any discolored leaves.
- Make sure to pat dry the Brussels sprouts after boiling to help them crisp up in the oven.
- Adjust parmesan quantity to taste or substitute with nutritional yeast for a vegan option.
- Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.
